Located at the base of the iconic Boulder Flatirons, Mariposa Garden House transforms a 1940’s ranch into a house of gardens and light. The architecture works in concert with the landscape, drawing sun, views, and plant life into every space of the home.

Energy performance drives the design. Strategic massing, orientation, and roof form reduce heating and cooling loads. A radiant concrete floor provides efficient warmth, while carefully placed windows keep the home naturally cool in summer and warm in winter.
A two-story masonry chimney anchors both the plan and material palette. Exposed rafters, plank ceilings, and ebony-stained cedar create an earthy character, while polished concrete floors reflect daylight and brighten the interior.

Clerestory windows bring daylight and ventilation from all directions, and an 8 kW photovoltaic array enables net-zero electric operation.

Architecture and landscape work as one. Gardens draw in light, air, and sun into every room, creating indoor-outdoor connections that allow the compact interior to live larger than its footprint.
